In late autumn and over the winter selective felling and coppicing was carried out in the woods, most of it by the wood wardens ourselves.  This aerial tour shows the results.

The aim is to open up the dense high canopy and stimulate new growth, including planting of native tree whips.

This video shows drone footage taken early in the work programme and then once it was complete.  You can see the newly cleared areas, deer baskets which protect coppiced stumps, and dead hedges using felled material which provide further protection and a rich habitat for smaller woodland creatues.
