This year marks 60 years of the Wood Wardens supporting and sustaining Sherrardspark Wood and we thought that a modest celebration would be in order.
You can read the history of the Wood Wardens in the 'who we are' page of this website. Suffice to say that 60 years of volunteers' commitment, well supported by Welwyn Hatfield council, has helped to sustain and improve this wonderful wood which is such an asset to the town - as well as being a Local Nature Reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Our celebration began at Six Ways in the heart of the wood with a refreshing toast. July 26th was another day of stifling heat, but one of the many benefits of the wood is the relative cool to be enjoyed within it. And a glass of fizz helps, too.
We moved on to Humphrey's Cafe in Campus West for a buffet lunch. To the relief of many this was not an occasion for a series of long speeches but we did enjoy hearing one of our most long-serving members, Marian Dawson, remind us of key elements of our heritage.
And to top off a fine event there was a delightfully - and skilfully - decorated cake.
