Peter began volunteering with the Wood Wardens in the late 1990s and soon became interested in the administrative aspects of the Society as well as the practical woodland work. He was elected Chariman of the Sherrardspark Wood Wardens' Society in November 2003 and is still Chairman today.

Peter is also a member of the Society's Working Party Sub-Committee, one of the four committees that organises the activities of the members and plans events for the public to enjoy. Whenever possible, Peter volunteers for practical conservation projects in the wood on Thursday and Sunday mornings.

A qualified team leader, first aider and a dedicated conservationist, Peter spends much time walking in the woods, planning details of the work parties, gathering information and collecting litter. He has gained an in-depth knowledge of the wood over many years and he regularly liaises with the Borough Council's Landscape and Ecology Officer. Peter also develops and presents talks to local groups and organisations.

Peter Cade is an extremely enthusiastic Wood Warden and an ambassador for the Society. His commitment and energy are a great example to others.

The award was presented by the mayor Howard Morgan at the Annual Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council Meeting in June 2014.
